Can I get a £1,000 loan with bad credit?

Being approved for a loan when you have a less-than-perfect credit score can be tricky.
A number of lenders on the Viva Money panel specialise in considering loans for people with bad credit. However, if you are approved for a loan with bad credit, you may be offered a smaller amount than you applied for or a higher interest rate.

Can I apply for a £1,000 loan with no credit history?

If you’ve never paid bills or borrowed credit before, it’s likely that you’ll have no credit history at all. This is called having a ‘thin’ credit file.

Lenders may view people with a thin credit file as a risk, as they have little information to base a lending decision on, such as evidence of how credit has been handled in the past.

Viva Money work with a panel of lenders, some of whom are happy to consider people whose credit files are a little thin on the ground. This means that, while tricky, being approved for a loan with no credit history might still be possible.

How can I apply for a £1,000 loan?

The Viva Money process is simple and straightforward.

Step one

Select your chosen loan and term and fill out our online application form. This shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes.

Step two

In just 60 seconds, we’ll run our soft credit search and scan our panel of lenders for a match. If we’ve managed to find you a loan, you’ll be redirected to the lender’s website. If we are unable to match you with a loan you could be shown some alternative offers you might be interested in, such as a credit monitoring service - these may charge a monthly fee. You are not obliged to sign up for any service.

Step three

The lender is required to run some further checks on your credit profile, including a hard credit search.

Step four

If the lender is happy with the outcome of their checks, you’ll be sent a credit agreement. Before signing, make sure you can comfortably afford to make the required monthly repayments.

If approved for a £1,000 loan how soon will I receive the money?

Some of the lenders on our panel can send your money on the same day your application is approved. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that the time it takes for the money to appear in your account depends on your bank’s policies and procedures.

I’m struggling to keep up with the repayments on my £1,000 loan. What can I do?

If you have taken out a loan and you find you are having difficulty making your repayments, you should contact your lender as soon as possible.
Sometimes, circumstances change out of our control, and lenders understand that. Your lender will appreciate the fact that you have reached out and let them know of your situation. They will want to work with you to come up with a suitable solution going forwards.

Opening up and talking about money doesn’t come naturally to many of us, but don’t bottle your worries up. You can access free advice on debt and money management through websites such as MoneyHelper, Citizens Advice, and National Debtline.

Viva Money and StepChange have worked together to provide an online Money Health Check quiz. The quiz is free to take, confidential, and has no impact on your credit score. The answers you provide will generate advice on what you can do next to ease your current situation.
